The Muses
Walk-through & Process

Day by day

Overview

In Angoulêmes'three main Art schools (Art, Animation, Games) three statues appeared with 7 eggs in each muses chest.

the Muses appeared to challenge during a week the students'creativity and strengthen the  links between the schools .

There were 3 events.

-why do you create?

- Create

-Share your creation

The one who could complete all the tasks were granted whatever wish they wanted.

People were enjoying the appearance of the Muses. We heard some of the chosen one saying that they loved finding their names on an egg.

As the day went on, drawings and items appeared on two muses. Nothing on the Art school one.

In the evening  some unexpected messages appeared on the one from our school.

"I never wanted to be chosen !!"

"I want to be part of the game "

Why such choices ?

On Monday morning the three muses appeared in the schools' main hall.
In each chest were nested 7 eggs  marked by the name of a student.
In the eggs were seeded to make the player understand that there was something in and they had to break it.

Alongside the seeds was a message:

"You've been chosen by the muses to fulfill a quest. Succeeding in the quests will  allow you to express a wish that will be fulfilled. Your First Task will be to express the reason you create. To do so the Muses offer you their skins!

MONDAY
What did the players do?
  • After our previous game "Join Us in The Secret World " we though that player might get more involved if they were clearly chosen to fulfill the quest. (We learned that the chance of being helped in a crowd was low if you were yelling for help at everybody. Getting helped is way more efficient if you ask one specific person)

  • We selected 21 of the most curious and implied students in the campus to be sure, some of them were going through the whole experience. We wanted to have the most implied players beingsure that if anything failed it would totally be our fault.

  • The Facebook page allowed us to give hints , help the player as the muse and respond to questions. (We organized anonymously the event)

TUESDAY

Early on Tuesday morning we put a paper on the muses. We were offered to the non chosen a way to join the challenges.

They had to go and write on another school Muse their name and draw something on it.

What did the players do?

Well... No one tried to join the quests that way.

In the afternoon the statues were covered with drawings.

One of the art school students even spend more than 1 hour drawing lingerie on a Muse.

We came back at the school closing to see if there were any changes.
There were a lot of changes actually.

The Muse was beheaded, her body was stabbed with a knife still in her body hanging on a wall.

WEDNESDAY

We painted red tears on the statues

On the statues was also a new message :

"Last night, seculars martyred one of us !

The time as come for the second task. Write us poems and prove that poetry is stronger than violence !"

What did we do ?

What did we learn ?

At first we were quite angry at the ones who attacked the Muse. Then sad for them , we wanted to sublimate creation .

We went to the Art school and talked to the students to understand what they were thinking about the statue and what happened to it.

Most of them told us that it was a way of expression, that it was Art.

We learned that the school was suffering some budget cuts.

One of the students told us that the Muse was the symbol of what was happening in the school.

It gave us an idea.

We would exhibit the three statues in the city main street near the Townhall to show the support of the animation film and video game school to the art school.

What did the players do?

People started to write poems.

THURSDAY

We shared our idea of an exhibit through a statement. It was planned on Sunday and we would be there to talk with everyone who wanted.

Since writing poems and keeping on decorating the Muses was time consuming, we didn't ask for a real third challenge.

We left a paper for them to write their wishes if they had completed the two previous tasks.

What did the players do?

We received our first complete poem
The other players were still writing their own.

The Art school' Muse kept on being more deteriorated.

FRIDAY

We received two last poems. We received one from each school.

We gathered the wishes the tree successful player made.

  • Prettier typography in the world

  • A pass to acces all the rooms of the video game school

  • Being less bored of my studies

We exhorted the wishes in December 2016.

SUNDAY

The exhibit lasted for a few hours, the people we met asked us about the statue, some of the students had no idea what the statue were about, but liked the approach  We contacted 2 local newspapers , and explained them our project .

Charente Libre came and wrote an article about us.

It made a buzz in the town students circle.

The 3 days we used to prepare the concept were way to short, we definitely need more time to develop a deeper consistency

Facing live situations made us really understand the adaptability we should have.
